One interesting quote from an oldboy:

Mr Liew's proteges - the Cagers & Sri Kandi (STF) this year are no match at all for all the other schools. It was like winning was not a question but by how many points. The progress of the 2 schools in basketball is way ahead of the rest of the SBPs. Trying to beat MCKK (and STF) in SBP basketball is like MCKK trying to beat Vaji in rugby.... not impossible but tough!

It was alarming to see that the others schools adopted a very 'unsporting' approach when playing MCKK Cagers. They think they cannot beat the Cagers so the players were instructed to go out and bash up our players instead of playing basketball. Shame on the coaches and teachers! And we wonder how our kids became hooligans... some of them were possibly taught to be one!

Anyway, congratulations to Cagers, Mr Liew, Ise (& Halim & Ana). Let's have some more next year!

and

As for bashing up our players, huh!... Bila tak boleh menang, iri hati! Itu penyakit Melayu tak mau orang Melayu lain maju!

i really dont get it lah izzat.. xplain sket.. dr dulu till now.. knape kalo uia nyer debate.. koleq bleh dpt atleast lah kn finalist if not champ.. tp knape bile PPM.. mesti kantoi.. awal gak lah kn (2nd round) kalo consider final tu is the main prize... standard judging lain ker? ppm lg high standard? ker uia nyer competition ni teams competing in ppm hantar junior? nway dont get me wrong kay izzat.. bkn nk kritik koleq nyer debating team.. tp just nak tau lah y.. really dr dulu smpi now.. i still dont get it.. smilies/cry.gif

hehe.. n psl team lain bashing up our players.. cess.. let them do wut ever they want.. as long as koleq maintain macho with real sporting spirit.. maybe this is an early warning to future cagers.. its time to build your physicals.. start building up muscles so that next year.. not only the other teams are outplayed strategically, outsmart mentally, they are also outsize and outplayed physically.. hehe..

adib, basically uia use uni debaters to judge whilst ppm guna cikgu untuk judge. Debaters have gone through debates and have an understanding of the technicalities of debating like definition, definitional challenges, burden of proof, etc. If not, there's a training session a the start of the competition and new judges would start out as trainees until deemed to be competent enough to judge debates on their own or as a panel. Teachers yg dtg to ppm, not all of them have undergone training to be judges and some of them are just there due to instructions or bullied by more senior teachers to go during the holidays thus losing some holiday time (note that I do not mean all teachers here because some teachers do know what debating is about and have a good grasp of it and some do love their students to make the trip to help them out at ppm). Anyway, the point is, the adjudicator selection for debates at ppm are not based on anything other than randomness. At uia, debaters can give feedback on your judges and thus, allowing good judges to judge higher rooms (teams with higher points) and poor judges to lower rooms (teams with lower points). The rationale of this really is that higher rooms tend to have more complicated debates thus requiring good judges whilst lower teams tend to have more straightforward debates thus allowing judging to be easier and helping poor judges to improve. If you're thinking, "a losing team would obviously give the judge bad remarks and a winning team would do vice versa", well, yes but complaining against a judge, if it were to be a serious case requires justification and the Chief Adjudicator would then determine, after listening to the team complaining and the judge him/herself, whether the judge made a serious error. Sometimes, a judge is not well trained and would be rated lowly by both teams and sometimes, a judge is very good, that both teams would rate him/her highly.
On another note, congrats to cagers. Debaters, tough luck. We subjected ourselves to a subjective sport, so we have to be ready for these kinds of things. You did beat my mom's school, though, haha. She's probably getting a laugh out of it.

biar aku explain....

Assalamualaikum dan salam sejahtera semua.
Ok, mcm ni, apa yang Afiq cakap tu ada betulnya, cuma benda tu tak applicable to BM category kat UIA debate. Kiotrg tak dak borg feedback utk tau how good the judge is unless based on his/her comment.
Ok, selaku orang yang dah train koleq since 05-08, lebih kurang 4 tahun, aku dah paham sangat2 condition to win UIA punye debate. Kat UIA, the debaters can do anything that the want, they are not restricted by the marking scheme, the same thing goes to the judges. Berbanding dengan PPM zaman skrg ni, mcm tak dak value pun masuk final or menang PPM. Pasal apa?
Judges skrg dah tak tengok points presented by the debaters, in fact kalau kau tak tanya larr kat Cikgu Azfa (dia judge for PPM from koleq), judges ni tak boleh nak differentiate pun points tu kuat atau tak. And pasal dia tak boleh nak differentiate points tu kuat atau tak, they will fall back to the marking scheme, tengok budak ni bagi stand ke tak, bidas ikut urutan ke tak.
So, at the end of the day, kebanyakan sekolah yg points tahap tapak kaki, rebuttals tahap buku lali, facts tahap tapak selipar pun boleh qualified masuk final PPM dengan syarat performance tip top, suara kuat and ikut structure dlm marking scheme. Itulah realitinya, despite that it is also about luck, kan?
So, begitulah jadinya. Itu belum kira judges yang dah ada mind setting, unqualified judges yg baru 3 kali jd judge. For ur info, after each match, before they announced the result, the chief judge must give his/her commet about that debate, tapi ada pulak judge yg tak nak bg comment, boleh pulak mcm tu. Nampak tak disaster PPM zmn skrg?
Itu belum kira PPM yg nak tukar format pulak next year, aku pun dah pening. Alasan tak nak bg sama dgn debat UIA, hampeh betul alasan. By the way, kalau nak diikutkan, UIA punyer debate lagi grand coz tournament to combined semua jenis sekolah (SBP, MRSM, SMKA, sekolah harian, private school etc). So, lagi banyak saingan and UIA punyer debate is thebiggest debate turnament for secondary schools tau. And imagine, in 30 minutes u have to prepare points and facts to fight against ur opponent, and boleh dikatakan agak membanggakan, koleq manage to overcome al these constrains and consistently be in the finals from 2004-2008!!
So, kalah PPM memang larr sedih, tapi lepas consider all these factors, macam malas nak layan dah.
Huhu...
Moga-moga korg puas hati larr kot explanation aku yg tak seberapa ni...
