LIM Li Yu, a 16-month-old “blue baby” who underwent a Glenn Shunt operation will undergo a second operation and father Lim Kian Soon is grateful to the Malay College Old Boy's Association (MCOBA) for giving his daughter a ray of hope. He suffered the first blow when his wife was diagnosed with cancer and the second blow hit him much harder when he was told that his daughter would need RM35,000 for the operation. “I am grateful to MCOBA. I have spent my entire savings on my wife and second blow was real painful,'' said Lim His daughter was among four recipients who received a total of RM50,300 from MCOBA to enable them to undergo urgent surgeries at Gleneagles Intan Medical Centre from MCOBA president Datuk Seri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas.
Apart from Muhammad Azlan Amran who received the full payment to enable him to get a new prosthetic leg as he has outgrown his old one, the other recipients only received fifty percent of the cost of surgery. Megat Najmuddin with the four recipients and their parents during the cheque presentation ceremony held at the MCOBA premises in Jalan Syed Putra. “We have an agreement with the Medical Centre. The remaining amount will be settled between the two parties,'' said Megat Najmuddin. At the cheque presentation ceremony held at the MCOBA premises in Jalan Syed Putra, 17-months-old S. Dhaveena who has been diagnosed with Atrial Septal Defect received RM13,000; Li Yu received RM17,000; six-month-old Muhammad Ryan Iskandar who is diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect, a congenital hole-in-the heart disease, received RM13,000 and Muhammad Azlan received RM6,800 for a new prosthetic leg. Megat Najmuddin added that the donation is made in the spirit of Merdeka and the holy month of Ramadan. " WAY TO GO MCOBA "
