Malay College Class of 2004

It’s another fine ending to the 2009 Finale Wind Orchestra Competition that was held at PICC on Saturday, 20th June 2009.

As stated in the earlier post, this year the competition has been made more interesting with the inclusion of cluster schools along side SBPs.. so this year we saw the likes of Penang Free, Ave Maria Convent, Melaka High etc.. Competing for the first time and showcasing new talents.. We certainly expect a stiffer competition this year.. we surely did get one.. 

26 teams competed this year, instead of the usual 20.. including 20 SBPs and 6 cluster schools.. the teams were divided into 2 divisions and thanks to koleq up and rising performance for the pass 3 years.. we are now considered the 'premier league' teams..the big boys.. hehe.. well.. after the preliminary rounds.. another surprised was installed whereby instead of the normal 5 teams finale, this year it would be a battle to the end for 8 teams.. maybe partly because of the increasing number of gold medalist.. koleq was among the 16 teams awarded gold based on merit of their performances.. so thankfully koleq managed to be among the top 8 so here we are again.. the third straight year running.. that's an achievement if u ask me.. i'm surely proud..

so picc again this year.. so here are the list of teams according to their turn of performance.. 1) SAS 2) Ave Maria 3) STAR 4) MCKK 5) TKC 6) SSP 7) SDAR 8) SMSSAH..

This year.. each team only perform 1 song instead of the normal 2.. thank god.. and after listening to all the performances.. i should say.. this might be the closest yet.. they are really good i should say.. 

They started of announcing the consolation prize.. technically we all assumed and i don’t think its wrong neither that the names mentioned were according to classification.. so 8th to champion.. 

so here goes.. 8th place - Ave Maria, 7th place - STAR, 6th place - SAS (the crowd went wild!! it seams that the powerhouse of orchestra, runners up last year is no longer one.. ), 5th place - SSP (wow.. the defending champion is dethrone.. the crowd goes even crazier.. these are really surprising results!!.. we could not help it to actually imagine koleq getting 3rd or higher.. though we forget that there is that 4th place coming up..hehe ), 4th place - MCKK.. (oh gosh!!.. it was so so close.. we were so upset..  ), 3rd place - SMSAH (they were not even in the finals last year.. great improvement), 2nd place- SDAR (another surprising result.. they too were not in the finals last year.. unbelievable)..and by this time the green convoy was already jumping up and down.. shouting like crazy.. only one left yet to be announced.. its so obvious by this time who's going to be champ this year.. Champion for the first time.. TKC.. ohh.. the ladies of OGA were definitely jumping.. so does the wives of our fellow mcobs seating at the MCOBA section.. cannot help but being slightly jealous of them.. wish it was koleq.. hehe..

well.. to be fair.. TKC deserved the accolade.. they played almost flawlessly.. they played the disney's medley.. very nice.. Praises to them for a job well done..

but as a reprieve to us koleq.. this year's team was mostly consisted of form 3 and 4 so really looking forward to next year finale.. if they build from here.. i'm pretty confident of putting my money for them getting 3rd or higher..
